Mimics of Phyllidiella pustulosa

This species was previously known on the Seaslug forum as Discodoris liturata Bergh, 1905

This remarkable mimic of the phyllidiid Phyllidiella pustulosa has been commented on by a number of researchers in recent years. Paradoris liturata has a pink body colour with a network of broad black lines and opaque white tubercles.
IPN writes:”It is part of a mimicry complex that includes Phyllidiella pustulosa, Aldisa williamsi, Chromodoris geometrica and several other species. Like P. pustulosa, it secretes an opaque white liquid when disturbed. It also retracts its gills readily to increase its resemblance to P. pustulosa.”
